This week, Mohammad has a whole new tutorial for us about expressive digital painting, and for that tutorial he created a new brush set that contains 14 brushes (including some great smudge brushes). It made us want to get outdoors and paint with some sunshine. We love this focus on traditional forms of drawing and painting. Our intern Mohammad Qureshi has been working on some great tutorials around topics like Plein Air Painting in SketchBook. This week, we’re focused on traditional painting brush strokes. You can, of course, make your own brushes, but sometimes it’s nice to have a whole set that’s focused on one particular style of drawing that you can just install and start using. ![]() In recent months, housing has shown signs of rebounding, with sales and construction of new homes picking up.Īnd higher interest rates normally would be expected to spur job losses in construction and manufacturing. But most of that increase had occurred by last fall. ![]() To take one example: Mortgage rates have nearly doubled since the Fed began raising borrowing costs 15 months ago. Industries that are particularly sensitive to higher borrowing costs - such as housing and car sales - appear to have adjusted to the Fed’s higher rates. Several factors, though, are countering those headwinds and helping perpetuate hiring, which typically boosts consumer spending and propels the economy. The economy has been beset by high interest rates, elevated inflation and nagging worries about a possible recession resulting from the Fed’s aggressive efforts to quell price increases. “It’s a resilient labor market - not too hot, not too cool.” “This is kind of a Goldilocks report,” said Julia Coronado, president of MacroPolicy Perspectives, an economic research firm. ![]() Yet there were also signals in Friday’s government report that the job market is cooling to a more sustainable pace of growth - a trend that, if it continues, could reassure the Fed that its rate hikes are reducing inflation pressures without derailing the economy. The latest sign of economic strength makes it all but certain that the Federal Reserve will resume its interest rate hikes later this month after having ended a streak of 10 rate increases that were intended to curb high inflation. And it amounted to further evidence of an economy that has defied persistent forecasts of a recession. Yet it was still a healthy increase, enough to reduce the unemployment rate from 3.7% to 3.6%, barely above a half-century low. ![]() The pace of hiring by businesses and government agencies in June - 209,000 added jobs - was the smallest monthly gain in 2 1/2 years. Step 3: Follow the reading screen of the device. Step 2: Connect the red clip to one end of a wire and the black clip to another end of that wire. Step 1: You need to use a digital multimeter to figure out whether the wire is positive or negative. If you don’t know how to check that, then don’t worry, here are the instructions on how you can do that: So, it is important to check and ensure which one is the positive wire and which one is the negative wire. But if someone installs it by mistake and you go to work with that cable, it can be dangerous for you.Īgain, if you accidentally, connect the negative wire to the positive port, and the positive wire to the negative port, then it may cause a short circuit and for AC power, it may put your life at risk. If you follow the standard, then the black wire is positive and the white wire is negative. How to Identify Positive and Negative Wire? However, if the white wire is marked red or black, then it means that it is no longer a neutral or negative wire, rather it is the hot wire or the positive wire. But if the cable has only two wires – black and white, then the white wire is the negative wire. The black wire is the primary phase 1 Hotwire and it passes electricity from the power source to the switch. The black wire is always Positive unless it is installed in the negative port from the power outlet. So, it doesn’t matter whether you are putting the plug into the positive port or the negative port. One wire if the plug is hot and another is neutral. The appliance plugs or the power cord don’t have any positive or negative wire. However, if a DC source has two wires – one is black and another one is a white stripe, then the black wire is positive and the stripe wire is negative. Direct current (DC) usually contains 2 to 3 electrical wires. In this power methodology, the electricity flows in one direction. The source of DC power is batteries, solar cells, and fuel cells. Chronic traffic backups, liftlines the length of I-70, closed lifts, and slashed operating hours at non-destination resorts are frustrating large numbers of the 2.1 million Epic Pass holders. You see, Vail’s cheap pass strategy forced a sleepwalking industry to innovate, but last spring they overcorrected, dropping pass prices just as a challenging labor market and mountain-town housing shortages made fully staffing and operating their ski areas an apparently unsolvable puzzle. In brief, starting in 2008, Vail crushed the decades-old model of expensive season passes and cheap day tickets by inverting it, forcing everyone else to follow. Sorry Neon-Onsie Parabolic Bro, but times have changed. “Why are there eight people on one chairlift? What’s a Revelstoke? American Skiing Company and Intrawest are still fighting it out for supremacy, right? No? Wait, why does Vail own Whistler? Why does Vail own everything? And why is their season pass five dollars? And why are there 5,000 people waiting in the liftline at Okemo? It’s hard to say what, if anything, will change in their pass suites. Within the next few weeks, I expect Vail, Alterra, Indy, Mountain Collective, and Mountain Capital Partners to release pricing and partnership details for next winter’s passes. Others - Berkshire East, Ski Sundown - ticked up a modest $20 or $25 between 20. Jay Peak has kept its early-bird season pass price steady ($829) for two seasons, as have smaller ski areas such as Pats Peak, New Hampshire ($469) and Titus Mountain, New York ($499). Full-access Ikon Pass prices have remained at $999 since 2020. Vail, with its 20 percent price drops, is the extreme example, but many other operators have hesitated to raise prices.
